How is CBD oil made?

CBD is a component found in the Hemp plant. It’s said to be beneficial for mental health and for the treatment of physical injuries, which is why it is becoming increasingly popular among golfers of all ages and abilities. While Hemp sits in the same plant family as the Cannabis plant, it contains extremely low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of marijuana that causes a high.

Oil is the most common CBD formulation, though it's also available as an extract, a vaporised liquid, and an oil-based capsule. CBD-infused foods, drinks, and cosmetics are just a few of the latest products available online and accessible in the UK.

But how is it made? First it needs to be sourced, extracted and finally made into an oil product. We can explain the process from start to finish.

Sourcing CBD

CBD is sourced from the flowers, leaves and stems of the Hemp plant. The CBD element is then extracted from the Hemp plant material using various extraction processes.

Extracting CBD

CBD can be extracted from the Hemp plant using a variety of methods, but there are two that are more commonly used.

CO2 extraction

CO2 extraction is the most effective method for obtaining CBD. A closed-loop extractor is used in this process, which is a system for extracting essential oils for fragrances as well as manufacturing food additives. The Hemp is placed in a chamber that is later flooded with CO2. The carbon dioxide is converted to liquid by increasing pressure to the chamber, which subsequently absorbs the Hemp's oils and flavours.

Alcohol extraction

Using liquid solvents like ethanol, butane, or isopropyl alcohol to extract CBD is also a common option. This is commonly recognised as one of the most straightforward extraction techniques. Experts suggest that ethanol, as a plant-based solvent, aids in the preservation of Hemp's unique chemical features during extraction.
